Experience

Earlier experience

Before I wrote code, I spent 14 years in restaurants and customer service: running food at an Italian trattoria, managing a Dunkin’, taking Xbox support calls and working packed bars on Friday nights. Most engineers come to the job straight from a classroom. My path ran through busy dining rooms, where I learned to stay calm when everything lands at once, to explain a problem to someone who is frustrated, and to care whether the person on the other end leaves happy. That is the background I bring to every system I build: I build for the people who use it, and I do my best work under pressure.

  • Honeybelle at PGA National Resort

    Server

    Details

I joined Honeybelle as part of its opening staff. Those first weeks were chaotic: a new menu, new systems and a front of house still finding its rhythm. I drew on my years of restaurant experience to help set up routines for side work and for communicating with the kitchen, and the floor ran smoother for it. Being there from day one showed me how much it takes to get a new business on its feet.

    Details

I worked at Duffy's for about three and a half years, I worked at three different locations and was offered a management position several times. I never accepted any supervisory position because i had no interest in pursuing a career in restaurant management

  • Teleperformance

    Xbox Customer Service Representative

    Details

Teleperformance was both the coolest and the toughest job I've had. Saying I worked for Xbox never got old, but call center work is draining: back-to-back calls, tight handle-time targets and a lot of frustrated gamers. I took advantage of unlimited overtime and at one point worked up to 90 hours a week (not recommended). It was also my first real IT experience. Walking customers through connection problems taught me a surprising amount about how networking works: routers, ports, NAT types and why a console can't reach Xbox Live.

  • Dunkin’ Donuts

General Manager · previously Shift Leader, Team Member

    • Increased sales 40%+; managed and trained ~20 staff.
    Details

When I started working at Dunkin Donuts, it was for the grand opening of a brand-new store. Two weeks after the store opened, I was promoted from a Team Member position to being a Shift Leader. After a year in that position, I was given my own store and promoted to General Manager. After one and a half years in that position, I realized that restaurant management wasn't going to be my career, so I moved on
